• The Maryland Mathematics Department has been awarded a multi-year VIGRE grant from NSF to support undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
• Associate Professor Konstantina Trivisa was presented with a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) at a White House ceremony.
• Assistant Professor Tom Haines has been awarded a Sloan Research Fellowship.
• Professor Richard Schwartz has been appointed Ruth M. Davis Professor of Mathematics.
• Professor Eitan Tadmor has been appointed Distinguished University Professor.
• Departmental staff members Ms. Jacqueline T. Adams and Ms. Haydeé V. Hidalgo have been honored with 2005 Dean's Awards for Staff in the College of CMPS.
• Distinguished University Professor James Yorke has been named one of the two winners of the Japan Prize for 2003, awarded by the Science and Technology Foundation of Japan. See this article in the Washington Post.
